Gearing up to conquer MS Gong Ride

Meet Brett Cambey, our fundraising hero supporting Australian’s affected by multiple sclerosis.

At Ericom, we believe in celebrating the individual accomplishments of our team members, as each individual success contributes to our collective growth. Today, we wish to share the inspiring story of Brett Cambey, a dedicated member of our team who is preparing for his third MS Gong Ride on November 5th.

Preparation for the ride

As our avid cyclist, Brett is used to breezing through a commendable 40-50kms on weekends. Now he is eager to embrace his third go at the MS Gong Ride, which spans a whopping 82kms. His enthusiasm for the event and the organisation behind it is riding high. As he puts it, “It’s a fun event to be a part of. It’s well organised, and they close the road for us.” The route is a pedalling paradise, leading riders through the lush national park and along the stunning Botany Bay through Brighton-le-Sands. Having completed the ride twice before, Brett can attest to the unique experience it offers compared to his usual weekend cycling. “Lining up and being a part of a group is inspiring. The Gong is good because people do it,” Brett states. The sense of accomplishment that comes from completing the MS Gong Ride is a feeling Brett cherishes. “There’s a feeling when you get announced as you coming across the line. It’s that feeling of accomplishment. The thought ‘I’ve actually completed it. I’ve done it.'”

Cycling for a cause

While the 2023 race is Brett’s third go at the MS Gong Ride, this year marks the organisation’s 41st anniversary since the first riders pedalled through Sydney and Wollongong in 1981. It first came together to support Australians directly impacted by multiple sclerosis, an effort that continues today. The importance of the MS Gong Ride has grown every year, with over 33,000 Australians living with MS today and no cure in sight. Funds raised from the ride go towards educating family members and health professionals, supporting patients, and funding research.

The Ericom team are immensely proud of Brett’s fundraising efforts and the resilience he demonstrates by participating in the MS Gong Ride. We stand by him in support and look forward to celebrating his wheely impressive accomplishment.
